For autumn planting

Autumn seed garlic

For seed garlic, we keep the largest, finest bulbs from our own harvest. This is hardneck autumn garlic adapted to the Pannonian climate and not treated with sprout inhibitors. One kilogram costs €22 and gives around 60 plants, enough for approximately 8–10 linear metres of bed.

Bulbs we keep for the next planting

After six weeks of curing under cover, we clean and sort the garlic. Rather than sending the largest, finest bulbs to the kitchen, we keep them for planting. This is how we select the seed garlic from the same harvest grown in our field in Gaberje. The price is €22 per kilogram.

The seed garlic has not been treated with sprout inhibitors, an essential characteristic of garlic intended for planting. We do not claim a specific variety name: it is hardneck autumn garlic adapted to the Pannonian climate, which we plant on our farm in late October.

How much bed you can plan for with one kilogram

One kilogram of seed garlic gives around 60 plants. At the recommended spacing of 12–15 cm, this is enough for approximately 8–10 linear metres of bed. Use these figures to plan your order before separating the individual bulbs into cloves.

Each clove is one planting unit and should be planted separately. Place it in the bed with the pointed end up, around 5 cm deep. Because clove sizes vary, around 60 plants is a useful estimate rather than an exact number of pieces in every kilogram.
